About us
Indian Drugs is the scientific publication of the Indian Drug Manufacturers' Association (IDMA). The Indian Drugs Journal started its journey towards Nation building in 1963 with the aim to provide an excellent opportunity to the Indian Pharmaceutical research community to publish their original research manuscripts without charging any fees. The journal has started its online publication from 2012.
Indian Drugs is published monthly and is respected for its peer-reviewed scientific and technical papers in english language. The disciplines covered under Applied sciences are: (I) Pharmaceutical Chemistry (II) Phytochemistry/Natural Products (III) Pharmaceutics (IV) Pharmaceutical Analysis (V) Pharmacology. We receive about 450 to 500 papers in a year, a number of which are from international institutions of repute, of which only about 30 to 35% are accepted for publication. The decision as to whether or not a paper is suitable for publication, though ultimately decided by the Editors, depends on a team of expert referees who perform the demanding and often unacknowledged task of sharing their expert opinions as to the merit of the research presented. This team of dedicated referees scrutinize the Research Papers and all of them work on an honorary basis and only their love and commitment for the subject matter and the growth of R&D in the pharmaceutical sciences drives them on. We sincerely acknowledge their contribution and dedicated support for the growth of 'Indian Drugs'. The publication has a circulation of 2200 copies and is distributed to all IDMA members as a members' privilege. It is also available by subscription to members of the industry, university libraries and government departments. We also provide soft copies of Indian Drugs to Institutes/Colleges and to our reviewers in India.
Indian Drug Manufacturers' Association (IDMA)
Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA) was formed in 1961. IDMA has successfully completed 60 glorious years of providing support to its members who have provided affordable quality medicines, not only to the people of India, but also to people all over the world. The IDMA Membership consists of over 1000 wholly-owned Indian large, medium and small companies under the State Boards (SB) in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh & Uttaranchal, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. IDMA regularly organizes seminars, training programmes and workshops for the benefit of its members and the pharmaceutical Industry at large. In collaboration with Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, IDMA successfully organized a series of Workshops titled ‘GMP Workshop for SMEs – Schedule M and Beyond for Global Quality and Compliance, and a Seminar series on ‘Meeting Quality Challenges and Achieving Global Compliance’ all over India. IDMA also works very closely with the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission in compiling and bringing out the Indian Pharmacopoeia and also wholeheartedly supports them in all their activities.
IDMA has contributed in guiding the industry in constantly improving quality and efficacy through our well appreciated annual Pharmaceutical Analyst Conventions held from 1997 till date. Almost all leading regulatory agencies have attended the Convention in the past and helped in resolving quality and regulatory related issues of the pharmaceutical industry. IDMA also works towards harmonization of the various Pharmacopoeias.
The launch of the extremely successful Advanced Programme of Pharmaceutical Quality Management (APPQM) by IDMA last year, in collaboration with NSF of UK, has been a major step towards promoting quality consciousness and developing Change Agents who will be recognized for their excellence that is globally acceptable.
IDMA has played an active role in many Government policy discussions and suggestions. Timely and effective representations to the Government authorities for quick resolutions of issues and quick response to members‘ queries is one of IDMA’s main strengths. IDMA keeps members updated on all issues through regular email circulars, advisories, the publicly accessible dedicated website and the weekly communication IDMA Bulletin, which is in its 55th year of publication. A monthly scientific and technical journal Indian Drugs, is also being published for the last 61 years with a dedicated portal.
IDMA recognizes excellence and achievements in various fields and gives away annual Awards such as the IDMA Quality Excellence Awards in manufacturing of APIs and Formulations, IDMA Margi Memorial Best Patent Award for best patents granted in India and abroad globally, IDMA Corporate Citizen Award to recognize and appreciate humanitarian CSR activities of its members, IDMA Research Awards for Original Research Papers and Review Articles published in ‘Indian Drugs’, IDMA J B Mody Awards for top-ranking B. Pharm students of Indian Universities, IDMA-APA Eminent, Outstanding and Young Analyst Awards recognizing excellence in Quality Assurance/Quality Control. IDMA also leads the way in CSR activities. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the Swachh Bharat Mission, IDMA took active part in the cleanliness drive and was recognised and conferred with the ‘Indian Pharma Swachhta Champion Award’. IDMA is the first recipient of this Award from Government of India.
